How to Clean Your Area Rugs

Saturday, 14. May 2011 13:55

This article is a bit off the beads topic, but we found an interesting company specializing in area rug cleaning Toronto, which we thought would provide our readers who have area rugs in their homes with some valuable information. This article was provided to us by Love Your Rug which is a professional Oriental, Silk, Wool and Persian area rug cleaners Mississauga. Carpets and area rugs come in all different sizes and materials. Since time memorial, we have seen sorts of rugs, from hand-made to ones made on looms and of course machine made, almost in every home. Essentially speaking, rugs add to the beauty and comfort of the home. They also keep the floors warm in winters and thus are always a welcome retreat near the hearth. However, the beauty and comfort of rugs and carpets does not go without a cost. There are two types of costs involved. One is the health hazard of continuing to use a dirty carpet and the other is the time and energy required to clean them. Smaller rugs can be easily hand washed. But larger ones require more effort and space as well. The first aspect is the dirt collection that becomes part and parcel of carpets and that is why carpets are often referred to as dust grabbers. However, there is a solution to this. The solution is regular cleaning and washing of the carpets. Here carpets can be vacuumed regularly, steam washed, dry steam cleaned, or even using the services of professional carpet cleaning companies. These companies use huge machines that further are equipped with four soft nylon brushes. Each brush has a particular task to perform, from scrubbing to crisscrossing through the very fiber and layers of the carpet. These brushes stroke off dirt, grime and grease gently and thoroughly off the carpet’s surface as well as within deep layers of the carpet fiber. The next step is the rinsing of the rugs with filtered water, to wash away any residue and leaves the carpet plushy and soft. The rinsing machines are also equipped with special detergents and formula shampoos that are specifically prepared to clean the rugs in and out.Moroever, let us not forget that this method of cleaning is ideal for hard surfaced carpets. But when it comes to soft silken textures of carpets, then a better cleaning option would be steam cleaning. As the term reads, steam cleaning is gentler and lighter on the carpet surface and fiber. So with these simple steps, you can still enjoy the warmth and beauty of your rugs as well as stay healthy and safe.

African-Kazuri-Beads

Near the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, an African born English woman named Susan Wood decided to help the needy women by opening a Fair Trade business. The business was opened in the 1970’s. At first, they made beads called Kazuri beads, which are made up of clay found in the foothills of the Kenyan Mountains. But the business became so successful due to the popularity of the beads that the business now employs hundreds of needy people. They are so popular that they are shown in the Gratitude Collection. They have gems that were hand made by the women who are employed by Kazuri beads.

The needy people are woman who have no money, have disabilities, have their husbands or children lost to AIDS, or a re single mothers. Kazuri means “small and beautiful” in Swahili. This project started with only two women. Now the beads can be found at hundreds of bead stores world wide, including bead shops in Mississauga, Oakville, Brampton, Toronto, and the surrounding Toronto areas. Creative Jewelry beads has a great selection of beads, and you can find beautiful African beads at this great bead store. To read more about them click on beads Toronto. As mentioned above, Kazuri beads are made up of clay found in the foothills of the Kenyan Mountains. They are then processed for impurities, and then additional minerals such as feldspar and quartz are added to make the clay better. The clay is first baked in the sun, and then put in ovens with temperatures above a thousand degree Celsius. Afterwards, they are made into ceramic beads by hand. They are then glazed and baked again. However, Kazuri Beads sometimes lose money when a power cut occurs while a batch is being prepared, making that batch worthless.

Murano Glass Beads

Monday, 19. July 2010 14:28

You may have never heard of the town of Murano. It’s a little town north of Venice in Italy. However, what keeps it separate from other small cities and towns is that Murano is the glass capital of the world. The reason is because they have a product called Murano glass.

Before 1100, Murano was a large port like Venice, and they used to trade glass with Asian and African countries. The designs for the glass were influenced with the countries they traded with. Glassmakers used those ideas into their designs. One story was that glassmakers used to mold glass into bottles. They made those types of glass until the 1930’s.

In the 1930’s, a visionary named Ermanno Toso changed the direction of the Murano glass. Instead of making bottles and other household things, he changed it into designer furniture. They began to make glassware such as vases. Murano glassmakers used a lot of techniques in designing the product. One method was filigrana. It was used so they could shape the beads into figures such as tear drops and balls. The glass made during the 1950’s were the most sought after products.

Because of the popularity of the Murano Glass, counterfeiting began to take place in Asia during the 20th century. Asia began to copy glassware made in Murano by putting an image over the glass rod so it would become part of the blown bead. Before 1849, this practice was called mosaic.

To prevent counterfeiting, the glassmakers in Murano decided to issue a trademark which was very hard to copy. It was a lilac sticker which shows a  glass blowers pipe . The trademark was registered with the European Union. The trademark was changed in 2003, so Murano Glass can become exclusive, and the quality then could not be replicated.

Later, a new form of design emerged from the Murano glass, and since then the Murano glass was used to create beautiful jewelry. The ability to mold the glass allowed for a large variety of shapes, colours, and sizes to be created. Jewelry made from Murano glass became more and more popular as time went on. Now thousands of jewelry stores acrtos the globe stock up on Murano jewelry due to it’s large demand. Beading stores also sell Murano glass beads to bead lovers who use these individual Murano glass beads to make their own custom made jewelry pieces.

For most bead lovers glass beads are one of the best beads to work with. They have a lot of features, which makes it is easier for people to work with them, and they also make your design look more attractive. Here are some reasons why:

Glass beads can be found in almost any color. Most of the time, if you go to a bead shop, there would be more glass bead colors to choose from than the paint chips at Home Depot. If you have ever been to Home Depot you would know that this is a lot of colors.

Also, glass can be made into any shape or size. Glass is a liquid, so it can be melted and then molded into any shape you want. You can change them into any cartoon characters or into any famous landmark in this world.

Furthermore, beads are used all over the world. So you won’t loom weird when you come wearing a beaded coat, necklace, earrings, bracelet or handbag in Japan, because beaded possessions are popular all over the world, and you are bound not to be the only one wearing beads no matter what city you are in.

Glass beads come in so many sizes. So you can bead anything, from a small pen to a huge overcoat. You can use beads to cover up almost anything, or to make any type of jewelry, big or small.

Also, if you send someone a beaded gift, that person will appreciate that gift a lot, because you spent hours working on it rather than going into some random gift shop for some last minute gifts. A gift from the heart is much more special than a gift that you just pick up for the sake of gift giving. Nothing says “I care” more than creating a gift by yourself, because it shows how much you care, and it allows you to express your creativity. Not only will the person you are giving the beaded gift love it, but you will most likely love creating this gift, because beading is really fun and because you will most likely care about the person you are creating the beaded gift for.

Turquoise Stones – One of the most Magestic Beads

Wednesday, 16. December 2009 20:12

Turquoise stones are one of the most valuable stones in the earth. Their appearance is blue and green. Its value may have dropped down a bit during recent years, but the gem stone still makes anyone look fashionable. People put turquoise stones on their dresses, and they are also added in beaded objects such as necklaces and bracelets. There are so many sizes in which the stones come in: owlite, wave, oval and chalk. They are also used a lot in jewelry. People even insert the stone in their wedding rings. Turquoise can be bought wholesale if you want to make things and then sell them. If you would like to see a great collection of beautiful turquoise beads and live near Mississauga, you can visit their website by going to beads in Brampton. Even though Creative jewelry beads is in Mississauga, they serve the surrounding Greater Toronto areas, including Brampton, Oakville, Etobicoke, North York, Toronto and many others. Turquoise was made when magma was rising through the layers of earth. The magma affected all minerals on Earth. Turquoise is created by a hydrothermal alteration, so when magma reached the surface of the earth, all minerals were affected. When the copper met with apatite, which has phosphorous, and feldspar, which contains aluminum, the stone turquoise was created. When these minerals touched each other turquoise was created. The more blue the stone is, the more copper it contains.

Turquoise was used a long time before the Egyptians. The Egyptians may be the first to mine this gem stone. During the Crusades, turquoise was mined in Iran. The Chinese used it on objects dated 3000 years old. It was also mined in the US, in the southwestern states of the US by the Indians, and in the Middle East. However, the French believed that the stone originated from Turkey, so they added “tur” to the gem’s name.

Turquoise is still affordable, so it can still make a great last second birthday or anniversary gift. If you want to start a project which involves a turquoise stone, then you can surf on the internet for some great tips. Also, to see them live before purchasing it is a good idea to go to your local bead shop. Monitors and cameras make colors and textures look different than they are in real life so it is always a great idea to spend some time at a local bead store where you can see all the beads. Origin of Beads

Wednesday, 25. November 2009 3:04

The earliest beads in the world were made in the Stone Age, from the Upper Paleolithic period. Most beads these days are made up of glass, but these beads were made up of shells and ivory.

The Egyptians used a type of bead called the faience bead. These beads were made up of quartz particles fused together. The quartz was then glazed, and then strung or woven into clothing and jewelry. Egyptian beads were found in the pharaoh’s tombs. A sandal made up of beads was found near King Tut’s tomb. Beads are disintegrated during time, so it was very unusual when people found that the beaded jewelry was still intact.

Beads were widely used in Asia. In India, religious texts show that beads were used to be put in horses’ tails and in children’s hairs. The beads in India were dated back to 9th century BC. Beads were also found in Japan, which were dated to 800 Ad. Beads in Asia used to be made of shells, stones and ivory.

Different stones were used to make beads. The beads which were made up of precious stone were supposed to bring you luck. For example, Lapis Lazuli was believed to bring good health to the wearer. Other precious stones included jasper, turquoise, and feldspar. We still use them today.

Glass beads were made around 1480, when Venice began to transform glass tubes to beads. When this method was discovered, it was then possible to make thousands of beads of any sizes and color. We still use all of these methods listed above.

Today, you can find beads from all over the world inside bead stores across the globe. Due to globalization and the ease of travel and transportation bead business owners are able to find beautiful beads from across the globe and have them shipped to one location. Creative Jewelry beads is a beads shop located in Mississauga which has found beautiful beads from across the glob and has made them available in their retail store.
