Origin of Beads

Wednesday, 25. November 2009 3:04

The earliest beads in the world were made in the Stone Age, from the Upper Paleolithic period. Most beads these days are made up of glass, but these beads were made up of shells and ivory.

The Egyptians used a type of bead called the faience bead. These beads were made up of quartz particles fused together. The quartz was then glazed, and then strung or woven into clothing and jewelry. Egyptian beads were found in the pharaoh’s tombs. A sandal made up of beads was found near King Tut’s tomb. Beads are disintegrated during time, so it was very unusual when people found that the beaded jewelry was still intact.

Beads were widely used in Asia. In India, religious texts show that beads were used to be put in horses’ tails and in children’s hairs. The beads in India were dated back to 9th century BC. Beads were also found in Japan, which were dated to 800 Ad. Beads in Asia used to be made of shells, stones and ivory.

Different stones were used to make beads. The beads which were made up of precious stone were supposed to bring you luck. For example, Lapis Lazuli was believed to bring good health to the wearer. Other precious stones included jasper, turquoise, and feldspar. We still use them today.

Glass beads were made around 1480, when Venice began to transform glass tubes to beads. When this method was discovered, it was then possible to make thousands of beads of any sizes and color. We still use all of these methods listed above.

Today, you can find beads from all over the world inside bead stores across the globe. Possibilities of Beads and Beading

Monday, 9. November 2009 14:03

Beads can be used for many different things. Some of these include:  decorating a piece of clothing or furniture, to make jewelry such as necklaces and bracelets. These items are made by stringing and threading several beads together. A lot of people think that beads can be only used for jewelry, but they are wrong. There is a large variety of uses of beads as mentioned above.

Beads can be used to make any item decorative. Because beads come in all sizes, colours and shapes, there is no way that beading can be restricted strictly to creating jewelry. Beads can even be molded into cartoon and television characters. Beads are also made form many materials such as shells, glass, wood, crystals, semi-precious stones, rocks, plastic and even bones. Some beads, such as the rosary bead, are more increasingly being used for spiritual reasons. Beads are used to make household items such as mats and cushion covers. They are also used to decorate shoes, handbags, and coats. Beaded objects are greatly gaining momentum in the market, and becoming a more popular hobby than ever. Beads are being sold online as well as in offline bead stores and bead shops. You won’t look weird if you are wearing a beaded object in any other country because beading is gaining an international rise as well. Beads allow beaders the ability to design the type of jewelry that suits their styles and tastes and therefore more and more people are expressing themselves through beading and beads.

You can add great value to your item by adding an expensive gem to it, such as a turquoise bead, a pendant, or any other bead made up of a valuable stone. There are many valuable beads that are being sold on the Internet, but if you would like to touch, feel and see the beads live in person nothing is better than visiting a bead store or shop in your area. Stressed from Beading?

Thursday, 5. November 2009 0:04

Even a guy who does the best beadwork, may feel the stress when he has to come up with a last minute design for a necklace, bracelet, earrings, etc. It’s like when you are trying to get the last second three pointer in a basketball game, or getting the last second touchdown. Frustrating!!! If you work with a company that has a high level of performance requirements, you will feel even more pressure and stress. That would be like getting a three pointer on a game which decides who will go to the finals. However, we have provided three steps which should help you make your last second bead design less stressful and more enjoyable.

Try to do what you do the best. If you are great in making bracelets, don’t try to make a very expensive looking earring or a necklace embedded with customized beads. If you do what you do best, you will be much more relaxed because you might have done this about a hundred times. If you have much more time, then try to use your creativity and do a necklace or an earring.

Use colors that are popular. Don’t build additional stress by choosing which colour you will put on. Check on the Internet to find out which colors are popular these days, and put those colors on what you are working on. Again, use your creativity when you have a lot more time.

And finally, make a rough copy by stitching some beads to see how your design will look. Don’t just start on the assignment without laying out the groundwork, because chances are that your final piece would look like a disaster.

There are other tips too on how to handle last second assignments, such as choosing only between a necklace, earring and a bracelet, because if you choose to work on a bracelet and it turns out to be something else, then at least you have reached somewhere. However, these three tips should help you with reducing stress no matter how stressful the beading job may be.

If you would like to improve your beading in a relaxed and friendly environment visit Creative Jewelry Beads by clicking: Lampwork beads Mississauga
Creative jewelry Beads also has great classes you can join, they are located in Mississauga but serve the surrounding GTA’s. Click beading classes Etobicoke to read more about their beading classes
